Depending on where you live, garage trends tend to vary but one trend that is everywhere is the fact that everyone has that checked off as a must when looking for a new home. Not only is it becoming more of a standard for home buyers but the size has become of importance as well.
A standard garage size 30 years ago was about 21 feet by 21 feet and had a ceiling height of 7 feet. To put that in perspective, a Hummer is 15 feet long so that would only left 6 feet to store any gardening supplies, Holliday decorations, or any other items one might typically find in a garage. Today the minimum a garage will be built at is 22 feet by 22 feet and with a ceiling at least 9 feet high in order to accommodate the modern SUVs we see today.
Garages have not only become standard for all home buyers but the design itself has become just as important as the requirement to have one. Today, a popular trend we are seeing more and more of is the look of wood garage doors. Unfortunately, wood garage doors are fairly expensive and require regular upkeep.
This year, many homeowners are aiming to add natural light to their garages with the addition of windows to the garage doors. Adding windows to your garage door are available in endless options: placement of the windows, size, shape, the type of glass used, etc. There is not a “one size fits all” option for garage door windows.
As homeowners begin to embrace the value their garage doors offer to the home’s overall look, they begin to design and choose doors more carefully. And with that, the overall size of the doors are getting larger. Changing the color of or adding windows to a home can be tedious and time consuming, but it is much quicker and stress-free! These easy-to-customize doors are becoming more popular because its a simple change that can greatly affect the look of a home.
